New opening exhibition “Plumage” by Las Vegas artist Kevin Chupik.
Las Vegas, NV – June 2, 2011 — This June local artist Kevin Chupik unveils a new series of paintings in his second solo show at Brett Wesley Gallery. Opening and artist reception will be Thursday June 2, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at 1112 S. Casino Center Blvd. This event is free to the public. The exhibition will run through July 30, 2011.
Within each diptych a tapestry of carefully painted dots and dashes explore the formal elements of design and the resultant larger images and symbolism of the human female form and exotic plumed birds. The paintings that comprise this show are a twofold configuration of elements from the avian and human world. Each diptych strives to establish parallels between two seemingly disparate entities. Female form, figure and face join with plumed bird bodies in narrative discourse. Each panel operates as a system of colorful dots and dashes that seek to create a union between the formal elements of design and those emerging from content and symbolism.
“It is my hope that these pairings hint at a dialogue that exists between the observed and the imagined, between myth and reality, between bird and body.” says Kevin Chupik.
Kevin Chupik:
Kevin Chupik was born in Fort Worth, Texas in 1967, and graduated from Texas Christian University in 1992 with a B.F.A in Painting and Drawing. After receiving his M.F.A. from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1995, Kevin moved to Las Vegas, where he has been living and working since 1997. Since 2003, he has been teaching painting, drawing and design at the College of Southern Nevada. A lifetime of interest in imagery, history, language, and travel has fed numerous bodies of work, spanning the last two decades. Kevin’s work is amongst private collections throughout the U.S. and Canada.

Brett Wesley art receptions are held once a month on Preview Thursday at 1112 S. Casino Center Blvd. on the corner of Charleston Blvd. The gallery building itself is a nod to mid-century modernism, urban chic and classic American roadside architecture.
